What bites there is that half a slider's width is fixed glass, so a wide opening can still come up short while a swinging sash in the same hole clears it easily.

A garage normally has no qualifying window, or one small one set high for privacy, so the escape opening is new construction: cut the stucco, size and set a header, carry the load down through new king and jack studs.
